Wardrobe Switching – Saying Goodbye to More than Winter

Okay – I’m perhaps a week late with taking on this project, but it’s that time of year again: switching my wardrobe. Goodbye warm, tranquil colors of fall and winter. Hello bright, boisterous colors of spring and summer.

I like to change my wardrobe around the first day of spring each year, although I do bow down to the weather occasionally. Last week I went to storage to grab some of my summer clothing for a work trip to Orlando – more on that in a later post – but I didn’t actually do the full change until this week. It’s somewhat like seeing old friends again. I do miss my clothing, but swapping out my clothing allows me to have even more!

As I went about repacking my colder clothing, I realized something important; this winter was a discovery of sweaters I kept just because I dreaded not having enough, not because I loved them. Continue reading

Outfit of the Week 6/3/16

So normally I wouldn’t normally wear maroon in spring, as it’s more of a fall color. But I love this suede skirt too much to not wear it. It’s got pockets and falls perfectly above the knew. I paired it with a bright white top to balance out the dark color. I also wore a maroon headband to complete the outfit. We all have those days where our hair just won’t behave. While a headband may seem childish on the surface, when it’s paired with such profession items and matches color well, it can be a great addition to an adult wardrobe. And it’s a perfect solution for messy hair days and more professional than a ponytail!

Outfit of the Week 5/20

Yesterday I was traveling, so it was a great time for a casual outfit. I fight against what I call the “casualization of the U.S.” I am not a fan of yoga pants and pajama pants as your normal clothes, even on planes. But I completely understand wanting to be comfortable while traveling. I pretty much always wear pants on a plane because it can get chilly sometimes mid-flight. I like choosing ones that are just a bit loose so they don’t dig in when sitting for hours. A fun top is a way to make an effort while still bordering on too comfy. I love this t-shirt. It’s a Sevenly shirt I bought a while ago in support of Education is Freedom, a program assisting young people in pursuing higher degrees. Also when travel, I love bringing a hat. Yes, it’s one more item to deal with a security, but it keeps the fake air off my face (eliminate those obnoxious hair in your face moments) and it’s always good to have a hat while traveling.

Outfit of the Week 5/13

I’m known for colorful clothing, so when I do wear black, I like to make sure there is an element of visual interest. This black dress from White House | Black Market has just that with belt like buckles on each side and snaps at the top. It’s tailored well so it fits curves. I wore it we a red shrug to give the outfit a pop of color that matches the shoes. These are some of my favorite shoes. I fondly refer to them as my Minnie Mouse shoes because they remind me of an elegant interpretation of the cartoon character.

Outfit of the week 5/6

It’s springtime! I love this dress. It’s got pockets that are large enough to fit cell phones (and actually my wallet on quick errands). The best part, though, is the neckline, which has ribbons to clip around your bra straps so they never show. These purple shoes are also wonderful. I found them in a cute little boutique. They’re made in Vietnam and they fit my feet perfectly. They’re wedges so they’re comfortable to wear all day.
